The Cann Valley Motel is a collection of ground floor units in a private location central to the Cann River township and a remote destination in East Gippsland with scaled-back, natural surrounds and a country feel. The town’s positioning between Melbourne, Sydney, and a number of notable national parks makes this a fairly popular stopover for travellers.


This budget motel in Cann River provides a many different accommodation combinations for guests including the Queen Suite, with one queen bed (sleeps 2 people), the Spa Suite is situated in a quiet section of the motel complex and has one queen bed (sleeping 2 people), the Twin Suite is for a slightly larger crowd with one queen bed and one single bed (sleeping up to 3 people), the Family Suite is a room consisting of one queen bed and two single beds (sleeps up to 4 people) and the spacious 2 Bedroom Family Suite with your choice of one queen bed and one single bed (for 3 people), or rooms configured with one double bed and two single beds (sleeping up to 4 people).

Food & Wine Experience:

Visitors are most welcome at the Noorinbee Selection Cellar Door for a free tasting of the fine wines produced from the local vineyard.


Cots and extra guests may be accommodated on request. The motel has a well-appointed disabled suite for hire, and has a lovely outdoor area for guests to take advantage of during their stay.

Walks & Cycling

Explore the magnificence of Bemm River and its lush forest surrounds, by taking the Mackenzie River Rainforest Walk, the trail is approximately 45 minutes duration and requires little experience with the added convenience of picnic areas at both the start and finish of the track.

Tamboon Inlet is picture-postcard perfect. Travel via boat to the mouth of the inlet, and choose from two sensational walks: Clinton’s Rocks, approximately 4 hours in duration with amazing granite boulders, uninterrupted coastal views and views to the Point Hicks Lighthouse on a clear weather day. The Sand Dune Walk is a quick 10 minutes with views of the coastline and encroaching forest from atop the sand dune’s summit.

Food & Wine Experience

Noorinbee Selection Cellar Door is just a stone’s throw from Cann River town, and consists of a mud brick complex housing a restaurant, cellar door and gallery. With delicious and interesting Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot wines.

Tasty local pub fare and a beer or wine can be enjoyed at Cann River Hotel, or for a more laid back lunch consider the Pelican Point Coffee Lounge with fresh food and coffee amongst a luscious garden setting. A quick visit to The Cann River Bakery will delight with scrumptious pies, cakes and sandwiches, a great idea for a snack on the go or to purchase for a picnic.

Parks & Reserves

Cann River has a number of camping and picnicking destinations pursue during your travels. The Cann River Rainforest Caravan Park is a council operated resource on the wild banks of the river, between both the Lind and Alfred National Parks and features the Drummer Rainforest Walk.

Croajingolong National Park is approximately an hour’s drive from Cann River. The park itself is full of shady eucalypt forest and home to the peaceful Wingan Inlet and two excellent campgrounds in Shipwreck Creek and Peachtree Creek. Tours of the nearby Point Hicks or Gabo Island Light stations may also be sought along your travels.

Lighthouse Attractions

Named after Lieutenant Zachariah Hicks, the bright white Point Hicks Lighthouse stands impressively above the natural landscape. Tour and climb the lighthouse tower and hear the tale of the ghost Kristofferson, a lighthouse keeper lost whilst pulling a pot of cray from the point never to return! Admire the immaculately kept mechanisms within the tower made so long ago to British Admiralty Standards, and be sure to take photos of this breathtaking location.

Gabo Island is home to another of Victoria’s historical lighthouses, and made of a very distinct pink granite from the island. Construction commenced in 1858 and since this time, the lighthouse is still known to be the only island lighthouse in Victoria. Views from the 47 metre high structure are also amazing and may include sightings of a herd of whales, dolphins or seals.

Water-based Activities

East Gippsland has wonderful water-based activities based around the region’s best attractions. Chartered tours will provide a great introduction to the east coast fishing experience and Kev at Wilderness Fishing Tours is the perfect guide when travelling through Mallacoota Inlet, Lake Tyers and the Tuross, Bemm and Genoa Rivers.

Perhaps diving or snorkelling has taken your fancy. The Point Hicks Marine National Park is situated alongside the Croajingolong National Park with deep marine areas hiding a diverse range of habitats and active marine life, so dive in and discover. The marine park has other fun recreational activities, such as sea kayaking. Swimming and surfing is also permitted, and highly recommended!
