Wagga Wagga Art Gallery’s National Art Glass Collection is the most comprehensive public collection of Australian studio glass. It reflects diversity in style, subject and technique in contemporary practice as a continuous record of the glass community’s achievements and evolution from the 1970s to the present. The significance of the Collection was acknowledged in 1992 when it was officially designated the National Art Glass Collection.

The use of glass as a medium for artistic expression enjoyed a major revival in the United States in the 1960’s. At this time technical developments made it possible for individual artists to work in private studios and freed them from the factory model of production. This gave rise to the term ‘studio glass’ and the artistic phenomenon known as the ‘studio glass movement’. This movement emerged in Australia in the early 1970s.

Tenterfield Railway Station Preservation Society now operates the entire precinct as a Railway Museum.

The Station opened in 1886 and is a rare survival of something that was once common throughout NSW. It is an almost intact nineteenth century railway precinct. When the line was completed to the border in 1888, Sydney and Brisbane were linked by rail for the first time. Services declined gradually from the 1970s and finished completely in October, 1989.

An untouched, well-renowned historical district surrounded by spectacular bush lands, Tenterfield enjoys mild alpine summers, sunny winter days and crisp winter nights, blazing red autumns with stunning tree lined roads and bright wildflower springs.

Set in the heart of Australian Heritage, Tenterfield District is surrounded by a wide variety of National Parks and is the gateway to both the New England and Northern Rivers Regions. Tenterfield is one of the country’s most significant historical areas. Known as the ‘Birthplace of our Nation’ – Sir Henry Parkes delivered his famous Federation Speech in the Tenterfield School of Arts in 1889, which ultimately led to the Federation of all Australian States in 1901.

The preservation of a number of landmark buildings gives the township of Tenterfield a ‘Federation’ feel.
