Great adventures to be had for the whole family!

The Coorong, a narrow neck of sand dunes on the south-east coast of South Australia, is part of the Australian consciousness largely because it was the location for the children’s book (and later film), Storm Boy by Colin Thiele.

Don’t miss a visit to the Coorang National Park that has some of the most spectacular birdlife displays anywhere in Australia. The lakes which characterise this low-lying area abound in birdlife. Huge cranes, swans, pelicans, sandpipers, terns, white-faced herons, ibis, kites, galahs, rosellas, wattlebirds and currawongs.

An endless variety of freshwater and saltwater birds. It has been estimated that there are more than 240 species of bird which use The Coorong as their home. Some migrate from as far away as Siberia, China and Japan. Equally important are the fauna. In the region it is possible to see western grey kangaroos, echidnas, wombats, possums, a variety of snakes and the waters are still rich in mulloway, mullet and bream.

Mount Gambier

SA 5290

Grand Central Motel offers a variety of accommodation options to suit couples, families and groups. The Grand Central Motel offers 23 units all non-smoking with two-bedroom interconnecting units that feature ensuite facilities, new reverse-cycle air conditioning and FREE Wi-Fi.

The Umpherston Sinkhole, also known as The Sunken Garden, was once a cave formed through dissolution of the limestone. The sinkhole was created when the top of the chamber collapsed downwards. Now the topsoil down on the floor forms the perfect environment for the sunken garden. Originally beautified by James Umpherston around 1886, the sinkhole is open at all times and from dusk each evening the area comes alive with possums as they venture into the floodlit gardens to feed. Only 5 minutes’ drive from the Grand Central Motel, the Umphertson Sinkhole is not to be missed!

If you prefer something a little closer, just a short walk from the Grand Central Motel you will find the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre, and the RSL with bistro and poker machines is located just 150 meters down the road.

As part of the Budget Motel Chain, Grand Central Motel in Mount Gambier will always offer you the best affordable accommodation rates when you book on www.budgetmotels.com.au!
