If you are planning to stay at the El Toro Motel sometime in the near future, you might be interested in some of the local attractions and things to do. The good news is that there is plenty to keep visitors of all ages amused.

Those who enjoy getting outside in the sunshine and breathing in the fresh country air will not be disappointed. There are plenty of natural attractions in the Numurkah area, including: Cactus Country (where cacti from all over the world are cultivated), Kinnairds Wetlands (which has trails suitable for walking and cycling), and Ulupna Island (which is home to a vast number of Australian wildlife, notably kangaroos and koalas).

Local Produce

The Numurkah region is rife with delicious local produce. Some of the local wineries include: the Cape Horn Vineyard (the kids will love the giant chess set), Fyffe Field Wines, Monichino Wines, and Murray Estate Wines. If you’re feeling a little peckish, we suggest heading to Locheilan Farmhouse Cheese, where you can actually see how the delicious cheeses are made, or the Big Strawberry, which is known for their delicious strawberry pancakes.

Family Friendly

When travelling with the whole family, proclamations of being bored are not unusual. Fortunately, there are plenty of activities in the Numurkah area that are sure to keep the whole family entertained. In particular, we recommend Glenarron Farm (where you can try your hand at feeding and even milking the cows) or the Numurkah Aquatic & Fitness Centre (which is home to a gymnasium, indoor heated pool and 3 squash courts).

If you’re interested in history, particularly of cars here in Australia, take a trip down memory lane at Chrysties’ Museum. Located out near the airport in nearby Tocumwal, the museum is an homage to the era of classic cars, trucks, caravans, tractors, as well as plenty of other memorabilia and collectibles. As Numurkah itself is a fairly old town, simply walking down the main street will allow you to come into contact with some of the region’s original buildings.

In the surrounding area…

If you’re up for a daytrip, the major commercial centre of Shepparton is only a half hours drive away. There are plenty of things to see and do in this city, including: the Bangerang Cultural Centre, Emerald Bank Leisure Land (home to a mini golf course, miniature railway and motor museum), Kids Town Adventure Playground, and the Shepparton Art Museum. If you enjoy the outdoors, the Lower Goulburn National Park and Shepparton Regional Park are also nearby.

Another popular daytrip destination, Cobram is also a half hours drive from Numurkah. There are plenty of attractions to choose from, including: Koonang Park (a working alpaca farm), Thompson’s Beach (right on the Murray River) and the Quinn Island Wetland Sanctuary. Being right on the Murray River means that there are ample opportunities to see it in all its glory, from taking a boat cruise through to paddling along it in a canoe.
