Family Friendly Attractions And Activities When Staying At Accommodation In Dubbo
By Budget Motels on 01 November 2017
Whether you’re just passing through for the night or planning a longer stay, Dubbo is a popular destination amongst families thanks to the wealth of kid friendly attractions and activities on offer. If you’ve recently booked accommodation in Dubbo and are wondering what you can fill your itinerary with, you’ve come to the right place!
Here are some of our favourite family friendly things to do:
- Dubbo Observatory
What child isn’t fascinated by the night sky? Take the 90 minute tour through space – immerse yourself in the Milky Way Galaxy or count the rings of Saturn! Use the high tech telescopes to explore the night sky for yourself. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays you will also be able to play a round or two at the attached Astro Mini Golf.
- Elston Park (Water Park)
If you happen to be visiting when the weather is warm, let the kids cool off at Elston Park. There are expansive lawn areas, perfect for a picnic, and a barbeque area if you’d prefer a hot meal. A number of different water spraying equipment is provided for cooling off – and entry is free! Note that the fountain is open from 8am to 8pm.
- Old Dubbo Gaol
Give the kids a taste of what life would have been like for inmates in 19th century Australia by paying a visit to the old gaol. Spend some time in the pitch-black solitary confinement area or speak with the costumed staff to hear tales of the past. Family friendly twilight tours and spooky night tours (suitable for bigger kids) are also available.
- Taronga Western Plains Zoo
The zoo is home to hundreds of animals from around the world, all living in natural bushland and large open-style exhibits – visiting is almost like being on a safari! Drive along the 6km circuit to see many of these animals up close. There are also behind the scenes encounters that you can book yourself onto for a more personal experience.
- Western Plains Cultural Centre
A great place for families to visit, the centre provides some insight into the region’s culture, history and artistic roots. The centre is home to the Dubbo Regional Museum (which houses a collection of relics and exhibits that tells the story of the town) and the Dubbo Regional Gallery (which features works on the Animals in Art theme).
If you’re planning a stay at accommodation in Dubbo with the kids in tow sometime in the near future, we hope that you’ve found the above list of attractions and activities useful. No matter how old your kids are or what they’re interested in, we are sure that Dubbo offers something that they will enjoy. Upon your return, we’re sure that you’ll be planning your next visit!
