Echuca Moama district offers the very best for those who appreciate good food and wine. With over 80 hectares of vines with new growth each year, the region is best known for its shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay.

Excellent all-purpose accommodation:

The High Street Motel is a sunny and well maintained property in the centre of town and the perfect base to pursue a wide range of activities and interests in Echuca Moama and the surrounding district.

The location is flanked by the alluring Murray and Campaspe Rivers and surrounded by the charming townships of Cohuna, Barham, Koondrook, Kerang, Cobram and Barooga. A day trip or tour of the region will introduce breathtaking parks, reserves and state forests, ample waterfront attractions and activities, historically significant sights along the way, museums, markets and so much more.

Echuca Moama, a once bustling precinct of ports along the Murray River, retains its appeal as one of Victoria’s leading tourist destinations.

Step into the past by visiting the local Discovery Centre, a development along the Echuca Wharf with displays of historically relevant machines and equipment, interactive exhibits and nostalgia on show in the Cargo Shed Museum, paddlesteam boats and the preserved Star Hotel, which during the late 1890’s was used as an illegal underground bar!

An in-depth education on the history of Echuca Moama can be enjoyed at the Echuca Historical Society Museum. Beneath the shade of ancient Moreton Bay Fig trees, and within the impressive walls of what was once a Police Station in the mid-late 1800’s you will find wall-to-wall memorabilia and cherished collections and stories of early life in the region.

Riverside Activities

Unwind on one of Echuca’s many paddlesteam boat trips along the Murray River and absorb the splendour of the local environment. The paddle steam ship “Pevensey” or “Alexander Arbuthnot” exude the charm of a bygone era and offers short cruises along the Murray, departing from the Port of Echuca.

Riverboats Music Festival is another must-see annual event burrowed down amongst a natural riverside amphitheatre. Appreciate some of the country’s favourite music acts in a casual setting along the edges of the iconic Murray River. With a warm invitation to bring a picnic, some company and wine, this event promises to be a memorable day out for visitors and locals alike.

Local Dining

A number of great dining spots exist in Echuca Moama, both in the heart of town and peering along the old Port of Echuca. Oscar W’s Wharfside is modern Australian-style cuisine offering delicious meals such as pan fried Murray cod, kangaroo and local steak with terrace views across the Murray River.

A fusion of the best flavours across the Mediterranean combine at Shebani’s Restaurant which comes highly recommended in influential Victorian food guides. And, lovers of the authentic fish and chippery will adore Fish in a Flash, with mouth-watering fisherman’s parcels, flake, chips and homemade potato cakes.

Another great dining experience exists at the Star Hotel, with casual cafe and restaurant dining influenced by Italian, Spanish and Mediterranean flavours. Gorgeous pizza’s and beer/wine bar are great accompaniments to a fun night out or low key lunch with friends.

National Holden Museum

Attention car enthusiasts! A highly unique opportunity exists in Echuca to enjoy a trip down memory lane with a museum dedicated to the preservation of Australia’s most iconic car. The National Holden Museum is busting at the seams with Holden memorabilia, historic film footage and over 40 vehicles are part of the exibition’s collection. Ample cafes and restaurants are nearby and a wide range of souveneirs and books are available for purchase from the museum.

Parks & Reserves

The Barmah National Park is a forest of captivating river red gum trees, some over 500 years old. Frequent uses of the park include camping, fishing, horse-riding, bushwalking, swimming and canoeing. Self-guided trails converge with diverse natural habitats, wildlife and waterbirds.

A drive, bushwalk or picnic in the Terrick Terrick National Park will pull the craggy granite peaks and grassland landscape into focus. The sprawling 9,660 acre park is home to many threatened native species, and largely undisturbed owing to its protected status in Victoria.
