When staying at this accommodation in Mackay, we encourage you to also tour the surrounding area – Bakers Creek, Shoal Point, Eton, Walkerston, The Leap, Mirani, Dunnrock, Sarina, Homebush and more.

If you’re planning to visit the Mackay area sometime in the near future, we’re sure that you want to know about all the local attractions and things to do. We’ve shared some of our favourites here.

The region has 40 beautiful beaches just waiting for you to explore them. Some of the more popular ones include: Black’s Beach (the region’s longest at 6km), Eimeo Beach, Bucasia Beach, Shoal Point (which is also a great place to launch a small boat), Far Beach, Harbour Beach, Illawong Beach, Town Beach Grendon Park, Salonika Beach, Sarina Beach, Dolphin Heads and Grasstree Beach. The marina is also worth a visit if you have the time.

Nature & Wildlife

If you’re ready to get lost in nature, Mackay is the perfect destination. Some of the popular locations include the Cape Palmerston National Park, Cathu State Forest, Crediton State Forest and Eungella National Park. There are also plenty of islands that are just a short charter away. Get up close and personal with the local wildlife, too – the Eungella National Park is known for being the best place in Australia to see a platypus in its natural habitat!

Culture & Heritage

If you would prefer to immerse yourself in the culture of the region, there are plenty of more artistic and historical attractions to visit. We recommend Artspace Mackay (a regional art gallery and museum), the Clermont Historical Centre, Lagoons Café and Gallery, Sarina Districts Historical Centre, Nebo Museum, Melba House (which is where Dame Nellie Melba once lived), the Greenmount Homestead and the Clermont old town site.

Family Friendly

When travelling with the kids in tow, we understand the importance of finding plenty of things to keep the occupied during your stay. We recommend the Bluewater Lagoon (a water park with three lagoon-inspired swimming pools and a water slide), Iluka Park all-abilities playground, GoWake Cable Park Soar, the Sarina Sugar Shed (see how sugar is extracted), riding the zipwire across Finch Hatton Gorge, or going crabbing at Clairview.

Local Produce

The area is home to some delicious produce – you would be doing yourself a disservice by not taking the time to try some! If you have a sweet tooth, head to the Sarina Sugar Shed. Go strawberry picking at Ballantyne’s Strawberry Farm (they also have a stall on the Bruce Highway if you don’t have the time). Visit Freckle Farm for fresh eggs, pork and beef. Drop into the Pinnacle Family Hotel for one of the region’s famous Pinnacle Pies.

The region is home to a number of amazing events, including: the Mackay Show, Mackay Festival of Arts, the Clermont Cup, Sarina Beach Coconut Festival, Little Tribe Festival, Mackay Marina Run, Anywhere Theatre Festival, Lanes Easter Festival, Wintermoon Festival, Global Grooves Festival, and the Mackay Festival of Arts. If you plan to travel whilst one of these events is on, be sure to book your accommodation early to avoid missing out!
