Staying at the Motor Inn

When staying at the motor inn, we encourage you to also explore the surrounding area – Bundaberg, Maryborough, Childers, Burrum Heads, Gympie, Tiaro, Brooweena, Woodgate, Curra, Gin Gin and more.

If you are planning to stay at the Pialba Motor Inn sometime in the near future, you will be pleased to learn that there are plenty of attractions in the Hervey Bay area to keep you and your family amused.

Whale Watching

If you would love to get up close with the gentle giants of the ocean, the massive Humpback Whale, there’s no better place than Hervey Bay. The whales stay in the area for up to 10 days, using the time to rest, play and socialize before they continue on their journey to Antarctica. You can experience these whales up close from July to November each year. We highly recommend joining a tour and can help you arrange one for sometime during your stay.

Island Tours

With a couple of islands only a stones throw away, taking a day tour to visit one of them is a great way to pass the time. Fraser Island is known for its beautiful beaches, spectacular rainforest and wealth of activities – it’s only a few hours away and you can drive yourself by taking the ferry. Lady Elliott Island is in one of the most protected areas of the Great Barrier Reef and is accessible via plane – we highly recommend a tour so you can experience the island to the fullest.

You cannot visit Queensland’s amazing Fraser Coast without checking out one or two of the beaches. In fact, Hervey Bay is bordered by 40km of pristine beach just waiting for you to explore it. Popular ones include: Dundowran Beach, Gatakers Foreshore Reserve, Esa Park, Torquay Beach, Ernie Organ Park, Toogoom and Burrum Heads. There are also beaches on Fraser Island and Lady Elliott Island that are suitable for swimming and sunbaking.

If the beach isn’t your thing but you still enjoy the great outdoors, you might be interested in the other natural attractions around Hervey Bay. Head to the Hervey Bay Botanic Gardens, the Cathedrals, Lake McKenzie, Lake Wabby, Great Sandy National Park, Wongi State Forest and Forest Reserve, Mary River, Queens Park Waterfall, and Fay Smith Wetlands. If you have kids, we highly recommend the WetSide Water Park – a free water park!

Heritage & Culture

But what if you want to immerse yourself in the history and culture of the region? You won’t be disappointed! Check out the Hervey Bay Historical Village and Museum, Brennan and Geraghtys Store Museum, the birthplace of PL Travers, Fraser Coast Discovery Sphere, Portside Heritage Gateway, Elfotography (a gallery run by Ellen Foulds), Hervey Bay Regional Gallery, Old Warehouse Gallery, and Alpha31 Art Gallery and Sculpture Garden.

The Fraser Coast is host to a wide variety of events throughout the year, many of which are known to draw in huge crowds. Some of the more popular ones include: Torquay Beachside Markets, the Handmade Expo and Vintage Market, Orchid Show, Maryborough City Heart Markets, Fraser Lions Annual Pier Festival, Relish Fraser Coast, Mary Poppins Festival, and the Annual Fraser Island Tailor Season Weigh-In.
